Book Club
Sponsor: Ann Cates
- There are two book clubs, one for 6th graders and one for 7th & 8th graders.
- Each club meets five times per year during lunch and study hall.
- To be in the club, students pick up from and return a signed form to Mrs. Cates before the announced deadline. (Listen to the announcements.)
- On the day of the club meeting, students bring their lunch to Mrs. Cates's room and with with the group.
- After eating lunch, a book is introduced and we begin reading the book as a group.
- Students have one week to read the first half of the book before the next meeting. At the next meeting, the first half of the book is discussed, and the second half is begun.
- Students complete reading the book on their own and then compete in a book challenge game at the final meeting. The winners receive prizes!
- Those students who have been active in all of the book club meetings throughout the year are eligible to go on a Book Club field trip a the end of the school year. (This year we spent the day at the CE Weldon Library where students took a tour of the library, played book trivia, signed up to be library volunteers (which also serves as community service hours), and played the Live Clue Game for prizes. For lunch we walked across the street and ate at La Cabana.)
- We look forward to seeing returning Book Club members next year, and also to seeing new faces join us!
